Who we are ?
The Club’s Objectives:
The Jaffna Club will be a catalyst for economic development in the North. The Club will encourage
support for:
Starting new enterprises.
Revitalising sick enterprises.
Building up existing enterprises.
Supporting existing enterprises to evolve to do different things and enter new markets.
I would phrase The Jaffna Club’s Objectives as: “The Club will facilitate, foster and support social
intercourse and fellowship among its members. It will build a network of members and non members
that can work together to promote the economic development of the Northern Province”.
The Club recognizes what is difficult for one person is easy for another person. A powerful
cricket team is made up of some who are good at bowling but weak at batting, some good at
fielding, some weak at everything but good at leading. The best bowlers tend to bat last. The
best batsmen often fail as captains. The strongest teams recognize and deploy strengths and
weaknesses to create their strength.
Among us are people who can advise or provide services on law; finance; manufacturing;
marketing; communicating; human resources; real estate; warehousing; logistics; exporting;
dealing with bureaucracy and more. For any one of us most of these things are hard, but as a
group all of them are much easier.
The Club does not expect its members to provide their services for free. Informal friendly
support provided freely can then become a fee paying service negotiated between the parties.
Just as one member may provide storage facilities to another member for free, another may
provide marketing or legal services for a fee which is negotiated between the parties.
