The monthly Jaffna Club ZOOM was on Sunday 26th November 2023, 5pm Sri Lanka time

Our speakers were from the Noolaham Foundation.

The burning of the Jaffna Library in 1981 and the near three decade civil war resulted in the destruction and scattering of a vast body of Tamil literature and heritage. Noolaham Foundation’s work directly insures against this calamity. This digital archive is publicly available

Noolaham Digital Library (noolaham.org) and Noolaham Multimedia Archive (aavanaham.org)

Formally formed in 2008, the foundation preserves Tamil culture and heritage by digitizing and preserving all forms of hand written, printed, recorded, and other media. From previous millennia to the current day.

By digitizing, this Tamil heritage would be preserved regardless of future natural or manmade calamity.

“Noolaham Foundation’s projects involve scanning, digitizing, cataloging, and creating databases of rare and historical texts, manuscripts, newspapers, and other significant cultural artifacts. They also collaborate with libraries, educational institutions, and experts to expand their collection and ensure the accuracy and authenticity of the materials they preserve.”

Noolaham projects are listed here, a very remarkable list https://noolahamfoundation.org/wiki/index.php/All_Projects
